Digger (2026): Who Should Watch Alejandro G. Iñárritu's Divisive Tom Cruise Satire, and Who Should Skip It
Every few years a big star and a prestige director team up on something that's marketed as "you have to see this for yourself," and the actual reviews turn out to be a coin flip. Digger — Alejandro G. Iñárritu's satirical black comedy starring Tom Cruise as an oil tycoon racing to prove he's humanity's savior before the disaster he caused destroys everything — is shaping up to be exactly that kind of film. Having read through the first wave of festival reactions rather than just the trailer, my take is that this isn't a movie that rewards showing up because a friend said it's "wild." It rewards showing up already knowing you're the kind of viewer who tolerates a swing-for-the-fences satire that a majority of critics are currently calling a misfire.
